Listening to this tape is associated with some memories, not necessarly good memories...
We've been touring in Spain back in 1997, and that tour wasn't properly booked or organized as dates were cancelled without prior notice as long as we're progressing further in the country. Rather frustrating situation, feels like a major waste of time & money. As a matter of fact, we had to wait for a few days in the apartment of the tour organizer during our days off, while listening to his records, i came across a copy of Siniestro Total second album "El regreso"and it was a very positive listening experience... Seeing that i was enjoying this corny early Spanish punk sound, the organizer guy gave me a copy of this compilation tape.
"Busca en la Basura" gather classic songs from early 80s spanish bands, all collected and recorded from vinyl or demo sources by the Zaragoza collective Bazofia records.
All this stuff is classic, like a Spanish punk "greatest hits", most of you might be familiar with this material in 2011, but if you're still a stranger to Castillan punk HxC music, this tape makes a good introduction.

The Zeni Geva track was taken from their 1995 album Freedom Bondage.
Last release for X-Rated-X, they took and interesting direction with this last song and called it quits afterwards. The bassist eventually continued his musical activities as a DJ and running a label producing techno music. That was a common move among rock musicians during the mid 90s, as the techno/dance/electro scene was the place where the things were definitely happening during these days...

More obscure french noise rock. X-Rated-X were a duo coming from Montpellier, southern France. This CD is their first and only album. Their drum machine powered sound was obviously influenced by Godflesh, Cop Shoot Cop and Big Black. Some parts are quite ferocious and agressive, with enough hooks and melodies to make them stand out from the status simple copycats... This music got quite old and sounds very '90s, but in a way, X Rated X are still pretty decent by today's standards.
Even if i'm not 100% sure, the thumbcuff torture pictures on the Cd folder look like some early body art performance stuff done by Marina Abramović.

Redson Pozzi, Colera's guitarist, passed away last week from a cardio-vascular incident. At 49 years old. He was a member of Olho Seco during their early years. Descanse em paz.
This split lp compiles their both debut eps and some sampler tracks.
Brigada Do Odio were one of the first Grind/noisecore bands ever recorded on vinyl, along with the Italian noisecore project Agonia, done by a member from Wretched in 1985. 14 tracks played within 6 minutes and 5 seconds. Those 14 songs are played twice to fill their side of the lp.
Trebly, lo-fi, full on reverb primitive crazy shit.

Last Davy Jones Locker post. The band kept going in that minimalist and repetitive music direction. They refined and perfected the formula with this album. Let's say they're leaning to metal and industrial at moments. Guitars sound sharper, thicker and agressive, the result is more violent and oppressive songs. Remember seeing those lads opening for the british band Fudge Tunnel back in December 1991.
Later on, one guitarist left the band to form a solo project called Pore, he was replaced by a keyboard/sampler, two more albums were released, didn't heard them, have to admit i lost track of the Davy Jones Locker whereabouts after that, the band did eventually fall in oblivion during the nineties...

This 4 track mini cd is a change of direction from the first demo and their 1990 untitled first 12", yeah, the one with the smoking dinosaurs on the sleeve. Less psychedelic and garagey, their traded their wall of fuzzy guitars for minimalistic and repetitive songs, not dissimilar to the early albums from Helmet. 90's French noise rock at its best.

Hailing from the grey city of Thionville, eastern France, Davy Jones Locker began playing their psych-fuzz acid drenched wall of noise in 1988. Clearly influenced by garage rock, the Stooges or MC5 at their debut, they later evolved playing their own brand of hard pounding music on their following releases.
Got this tape back then as a promo sent by the label, while i was not familiar with that type of sound, listening mostly to HxC punk, been positively surprised and their sonic approach left me a great impression...

The music here is hard to describe, experimental Hardcore mixed with some Art punk and a No-Wave feel.
Songs here are repetitive, dark and gloomy. The guitar is not melodic but rather sound as layers of looping screeching noises over a repetitive yet groovy rhythm structure.
This band was quite underrated, this lp was their only release, which i think wasn't that much sold or distributed outside France, as far as i know, La Machoire never played live as it was mostly a studio project.
Some members went playing later in different projects like Escare or RWA, and later on Mug.

This record came with a thick offset printed 24 page booklet, each song illustrated by different artists coming from the underground Parisian graphzine scene such as Poincelet, Valium, Pierre La Police, Bruno Richard, Y5P5 and others... The whole thing was nicely and professionaly wrapped by Bolino and Vigier, making this record a nice piece of art...

This little tape compilation was produced by the small label Nouzui records, run by Yoshikawa, also known as the D.O.N.D.O.N. vocalist, featuring songs from Japanese hard core punk bands as Gil, Asbestos, Crück, S.D.S., Crow, D.O.N.D.O.N., F.V.K., Lovezhe, Sic, Final Count, Acid, Jellybeans and T.D.F.
Most of the songs are coming from demo or live recordings so the sound quality may be a bit rough for some people... Note that 20 years ago, access to Japanese punk releases were quite difficult compared to now, and the most easily available material were tapes like this, few releases from the labels M.C.R. & Adventure Family Records who were trading their productions with small western labels and also those infamous German bootlegs from the early 90s.
If you're already familiar with this recording, the Mp3s here are ripped from an original tape and are a bit crispier, better quality than the rip already floating on the WorldWideWeb.

Young Angry Bands Unite was a compilation gathering different underground acts from Manila, this noble endeavour was the work of Mr. John John Serna, vocalist from the primitive punk band Drastic Noise and head honcho from the United Hate record label.
Apparently, United Hate did the artistic supervision, selecting the different bands appearing on the comps, and the whole project was dealt with a local major label, Aquarius Records, for manufacturing and distributing the tapes in shopping malls and retail stores. Note that in the early 90s, major labels were interested in producing all those indie acts, smelling there was probably some cash to be made with that trend...
Unfortunately for Aquarius Records, what we have here is a compilation of rough, tuneless, inept and primitive third world punk, and it seems they completely missed their target audience with that tape, indie crowds would not listen to such crap, and the true DIY punks dissed J.J. Serna and United Hate being a sellout working with a major label... Catch 22.

As this tape was some sort of commercial failure and was not properly distributed back then, there are still large unsold quantities sleeping in boxes in some warehouse in Manila to this day.
Anyway, all additional information or disambiguation is welcome...

I really like the music, basic, simple and direct Philippine punk at work here.
Tribal Fish was an all-girl band playing a mix of female grunge and punk, they had a full lenght album later.
Bands like Bangugot Ni Juan, Violent Offender, Drastic Noise, Subliminal and eventually Screaming Beggars venture into a weird primitive and undefined hard core territory.

Can't tell much about this short two-song record.
Only release from the Woes, never heard and can't find any online info about these guys. Music-wise this is fairly OK, it's either fast paced heavy metal leaning to hardcore punk or the other way round. Listen and be the judge...
For reference, a chinpira is a low ranking yakuza member, a thug part of a rocker or biker gang in Japan. Too bad the Woes didn't included pictures of themselves on the record sleeve.

Pretty diverse international sampler from the Japanese label M.C.R. ( a.k.a. Modern Crazy Reaction ). It's labelled as the Vol.2 because the first MCR sampler was the 1986 lp "Amanohashidate Ni Kita Ganpeki No Haha".

The two songs from Scraps were also featured on the "Rapsodie" 1987 french H/C sampler, Good tracks from U.S. The Freeze and Sweden's S.O.D., the two British bands ( Deformed & Heavy Discipline ) arenot too incredible, and the Japanese bands ( Pipyu, Fuck Geez, Glory, B.P. the Prisoner and Distorted Samurais ) play mostly melodic punk rock, kitsch but enjoyable...

That was the first installment of the "This is the Life" compilations, i suppose there's 7 volumes to this day. The next comps were released after 1997 and they showcase the new breed of 90's Japanese hardcore. Mostly raw and fast material...

15 track ep from this crazy Finnish band.
Kuolema were among the pionneers of the Finnish punk h/c scene back in the early eighties.
They were one of the most crude, primitive, obnoxious, drunken and chaotic band back then. Rehearsing, recording or playing live totally drunk without giving a fuck about the musical result might have been their attitude at that time as far as their early demo recordings suggest.
Kuolema resurrected in the early zeroes. Only Ile, the vocalist, is left from the original line-up.
Rhythm section is held by the guys from Força Macabra, while the beats are extremely fast, it's also extremely tight and precise thanks to their participation.
Kuolema's sound is quite unique, still rooted in the traditional Finnish punk sound, played at extreme speeds, wild and chaotic while still being controled.

Little to no information about this Japanese band. This flexi is their unique release.
Musically, the rhythmic section is basically punk, while the guitarist displays metallic influences with his leads and solos. The vocals here are really special, melodic and sometimes off-key, they create a weird and unsettling feel to the songs.
The result is quite unique, it might have similarities with an Adk punk band trying to imitate GISM, adding Gastunk's vocals...
The artwork can reminisce GISM and Sakevi's collage to some people, i see more affinities with JG Thirlwell's Foetus early artworks, as on albums like "Hole" or "Ache".

Escombro was a small band from the Basque country, Nothern Spain.
I believed this tape is their only release. ( In fact, it's not: Escombro released their full lenght Hijo del Desecho in 1993. )
Their music consist of short and fast songs. There might be some similarities with their Catalan counterparts HHH, but here the tunes are more complex and a bit sloppier at times.
I included enlarged portraits from the xeroxed inserts because it reminded me Basque posters displaying mugshots of arrested members from the E.T.A.

Three flexi compilations in one folder.
Those "Losing Your Way" series had been produced and released by the Japanese label Skinny Dip somewhere between 1996 and 1999.
The flexi disc which had been a cheap and popular format in Japan started to disappear at the beginning of the 2000's. As a matter of fact, these compilations were pressed by Evatone Soundsheets in the US, as the manufacturing of flexis was already out-of-date in Japan at that time...
Features in the following order the japanese bands: No Think, One size Fits All, I.R.F., Calf Branding, Flash Gordon, Carcass Grinder, Hope, Charm, Restrain, Vivisick, Trademarks, Disco Kicks, Total Fury, Exclaim, Jellyroll Rockheads, Lulu, Handsleg, Hyper Hindu Squatters, BreakFast, Slapping Bikini and Paluka.
Most of them were part of the late 90s early 00s thrash & fastcore revival. Most songs here are the short, fast & loud type of music but the whole stuff remains a pretty mixed bag.

Blind Ignorents - Blind Ignorents - self released 1988

Obscure Texan punk rock band.
Blind Ignorents recorded these songs in 1987, self released their unique album in 1988, then appeared on the "Houston Loud" compilation in 1989, with another Texan obscure bands, except the not so obscure Pain Teens, who made a great musical carreer during the first half of the 90s.
The music here is dirty, sloppy, raw and sarcastic punk-rock, songs are short and straight to the point, falling before the two minute mark. Special mention for the gruffy vocals.
Check the lyrics from the song "Hardcore porn", mocking the straight-edge/youth-crew/posi-core movement which was so prevalent at that time. it's definitely not PC...

Not that many info is available about this forgotten Houston band, but i found some Blind Ignorents related stuff, here's a video of a 1989 song, the Lp material is definitely rawer and faster than this.

Second 14 songs lp from this French band coming from Paris. This album is a great effort compared to their first lp "16 Hardcore Romances" released in 1989. Here the sound quality is great for French standards, the recording was done by a guy named Cecil English, who is known to be the exclusive sound engineer for NomeansNo.
Musically, "Chemical Gardens" fuses 60's garage, classic U.S. hardcore and an experimental twist, not that far from bands like Minutemen, D.K., NomeansNo or Saccharine Trust.
Their sound kind of aged well, even 20 years later.
according to its great quality, this album never got the success it deserved, Girls In Love separated just after its release.

Except this nine song ep self-produced by the band, Pós-Guerra had tracks on the compilations "Cenas Anarco Punks" lp in 1994 and "Resistência Anarco Punk" a 4-way lp with Metropolixo, Lixo Urbano and Discarga Violenta in 1997.

As a follow up to the two previous posts, here another record with female vocals.
Third release from the French anarcho-punk band Verdun. The music tends to be tighter and faster than their previous works. There's definitely and improvement going on... Lyrics are either melancolic or sarcastic, they reflect quite a bleak outlook on life...
This record had been already posted on other blogs with lower bitrates.

Their 1985 Smash The H-Blocks 12'' ep and their 1987 Notre Combat 7inch were previously posted here. I suppose this record was coming with a lyric sheet but the insert is nowhere to be found. I a good samaritan can provide me a hi-resolution scan of this lp insert, that would be very welcome. Just added a 1988 Verdun gig poster for good measure...

Abrasive Relations was a Philippine all-girl punk band active during the 90s.
They had a chance to have their song released on vinyl by the Dutch label Astral Anarchy, who produced mostly electro-punk bands. No techno beats here, Abrasive Relations played straight forward punk-rock.

Dear readers of this blog, after nine months without posting, here's some new material available again.

This is the No Thanks discography lp released back in 2007 by Lengua Armada, i believe this record is almost sold out right now. It contains their first and only 7inch, their 1982 demo and a live soundboard recording. No Thanks were coming from New York City, played blazing fast thrash between 1982 and 1985 and then called it quits. They had one of the best and most furious female voice in hardcore, the songs from the 1982 demo destroys everything in sight, i guess it was one of the fastest bands playing back then, taking in account their contemporaries from Urban Waste or Youth Korps.
The live recording sounds clean, it has some unreleased songs which are much more quiet than their early material, this not bad by any means, just classic and generic American hardcore.
I won't develop that much here, lots of information is available on the internet about this great band. You can check some interviews answered by their vocalist Donna Damage, who gives a lot of details about the early NYC scene and its context.

Thought about posting some more Finnish punk stuff, but while checking this blog statistics, i found out many researches about this record led to here...
So here's Kyojinbyo's "Black Current Hard Coar" flexi, it's a follow up to their second ep i've posted here last December. Can't tell you much about this record, according to the picture and the voice, the vocalist is definitely not supposed to be a girl despite the nickname and the androgynous appearence. Looking at the stamped numbers on the cover, this flexi was supposedly pressed at two thousand copies so it's not an insanely rare record... That was posted back in 2006 on 7inch punk, but here you'll find a clearer, crispier version, and tracks had been separated differently...

First and only release by these Finns. Self-produced by the band. Hailing from from the small provincial town of Varkaus.
Got this from a mailorder distro back in the early nineties, being a 13 song seven inch, i was expecting crude finnish thrash in the vein of early Terveet Kadet or Sorto, have to admit i was a bit disappointed when receiving the record. Saaste's music is fast paced punk with thin guitars delivered in a quite joyous, fun and laid-back atmosphere. I've read once an interview from a Finnish band where they said that life was so boring in Finland that the two options available for the youth was binge-drinking every week-end or playing music. According to their record pictures, Saaste were engaged in both activities. Two reasons for you to download this record: it's quite decent and enjoyable music, and this record hadn't been posted yet in the internet...

The Japanese bands are doing their usual stuff, except for F.V.K, who tries hard to play some sort of reggae inspired music, the song is quite weird, but original and interesting.
Nothing incredible here, but definitely honest material.

Another post featuring cute Japanese girls playing violent music.
Banjax got less exposure than their female thrashers counterparts Mind Of Asian, but they also play very energetic thrash, with some more hooks, catchiness and melody.
This five song CD released by MCR in 2004 is their first full-lenght, after that they had four more songs on a split CD with the Californian band Voetsek. According to their website, they still continue to play up to this day. It's possible to listen to their great tunes by clicking the link below. The first song kick you right in the face, or i might say right in the balls, the rest is much more mid-tempo, but it's still raging material.

More female Japanese music. Coa is is duo consisting of two girls playing bass and drums.
Their music is quite aggressive, minimalist and noisy.
First heard this band around 1997 on the "Magaibutsu CD sampler vol.1" produced by Tatsuya Yoshida from Ruins, this CD gathered many different experimental Drum & Bass duos. the two songs from Coa were extremely loud, raw live or rehearsal recordings with insane amount of saturation and distortion.
This is their first ep produced by Japan Overseas, they had a full lenght album on the same label titled " Smell Me, Smell My Grandfather" which might sound a bit weak in comparison due to a cleaner production. Later on, Coa had quite a discography i'm not particularly aware of. That's all folks!!

1995 debut ep from Romantic Gorilla, songs were taken from the band's first demo and then pressed onto vinyl by the German label Heartfirst. Later on they had a split lp with Spazz in 1996, and a full lenght album in 1998, both released by the U.S. label Sound Pollution.
This five song ep shreds, much more than their later material, the song "Blue" stands out from the rest with its cute melodic feminine voice sung over 200 mph thrash.
One of the particularities of the band was, along with their fun and absurd lyrics, its general goofiness, having a mixed line-up of two guys at the rythm section and girls at guitar and vocals.

More Hartsoeker music tossed at you, readers of this blog...
Their second release is this one sided seven inch pressed at 200 copies back in 1998.
Songs are getting tighter and faster than what was featured on their first ep.
Last track is a 4 minutes harsh ambiant noise soundscape recycling the separate audio tracks from their first 7'' studio sessions. I believe Anemone Tube was a solo project from one the Hartsoeker guys, he still continues to this day.

The last Hartsoeker release, issued in 2004, sounding a bit rough, but good songs anyway, still in their grinding fastcore with pissed-off vocals style. on the flip, Eyehatelucy lays one seven minute track of slow, monotonous, depressing sludge. No guitars, not devastating crushing sound but still acceptable. Issued at 1000 copies, suppose it's still easy to find on some distro lists.

Nicolaas Hartsoeker (26 March 1656, Gouda - 10 December 1725, Utrecht) was a Dutch mathematician and physicist who invented the screw-barrel simple microscope circa 1694.
It is often said that in 1694, while observing human sperm through a microscope, Hartsoeker believed that he saw tiny men inside the sperm, which he called homunculi or animalcules...

Hartsoeker were a small German band playing intricate, intense and pissed grinding fastcore between 1996 and 2004. Along the lines of german bands like Luzifers Mob or earlier stuff from Yacopsae. Strange fact is such a brilliant band had been quite overlooked by their peers from the Euro "crust-punk scene". Thing is the Hartsoeker guys didn't have dreadlocks, piercings or nice tatoos, they rather kept a low profile, being peaceful, quiet pot-smoking university students.
This nine song seven inch had been pressed to 950 copies, and due to the lack of popularity of the band, it's still easy to find copies for a cheap price.

Silverfish - "Dolly Parton" 12''ep - 1989

First mini lp from the british combo Silverfish, who later evolved in a more indie noise rock thing with their following records "Cockeye", "Fat Axl" and "Organ Fan". Here, the unpolished sound is quite raw and aggressive, layers of fuzzy guitars and distorted bass over simple repetitive pounding drums, their best work in my opinion. Saw them live in 1992 and that was an enjoyable experience as far as i remember.
The vocalist Lesley Rankine embraced a solo carreer after 1993 founding the trip-hop project Ruby, remember reading an interview from her where she had lots of comtempt for her previous bandmates and the narrow-mindedness of the "indie-rock-hardcore-scene" where she crawled during her early musical stage...

I went to that small convenience store to buy a pack of cigarettes when i bumped into a Brazilian punk, the guy was looking really ugly with his shredded clothes and his 12 inches mohawk.
He insisted to give me some crappy Cdrs wrapped in plastic, took the Cds and said thanks.
I was expecting to hear poorly recorded and terribly bad music.
One of these Cds in particular grabbed my attention, the drawing on the cover was quite hilarious. As it's been said to not judge a book on it's cover, i listened to the Discrença demo and it went to be a positive surprise, the sound quality is okay, all in all, it's the typical rough Hard Core Punk from Brazil, similar to bands like Armagedom or Lobotomia.
Like the structure of the Brazilian society, social inequality is also present within the DIY punk scene, with bands playing on shitty 50w Meteoro amplifiers, releasing Cdrs with cheap xeroxed covers, trading hand made stickers and painted t-shirts for small change, all this unseen subterranean activity represents the backbone of the Brazilian punk community.

Back on the blog. Work was done properly and delivered on time.
This seven inch flexi was the first official record from The band Mess ( Me♀ss ).
This is quite enjoyable uptempo, straightforward clean sounding hard core punk. Later on, on their following releases, the band will evolve to darker, stranger music, mixing elements of metal and even psychedelia. Got this in the early nineties and i haven't listened to it that much since, thought it had nothing special back then... but in fact this overlooked slab of acetate appears to be pretty good.

Rednecks are a young band coming from Koenji, in the Tokyo area.
This self produced eight song ep is their first vinyl output.
When first listening their music, it sounds like very noisy crasher crust, but with closer attention, you'll find some elements of dynamic fast thrash core, but buried into thick layers of buzzsaw guitars on the right channel and chainsaw guitars on the left channel. Yes it is...
Didn't separate the songs when ripping the record because the noisy guitars make the songs merge together, did i mention the Rednecks music is noisy?
This slab of vinyl was pressed at 500 copies, guess it's already sold out, aside from that Rednecks just released a split ep with Johns Town Aloha this year.

Another obscure band coming from the wine hub of Bordeaux, South-West France, there's was something in the Bordeaux wine during the early nineties because many interesting bands down there were crafting innovative sounds of their own, playing weird experimental hard core music, think something along the lines of Minutemen, No Means No or Die Kreuzen...
Escare started in 1992 and dissolved in 1993, just releasing this four track CD and laying two another tracks on a compilation. Unfortunately, Escare disappeared too fast, this CD wasn't properly distributed, it fell off the radar and their music was unfairly forgotten, they were somewhat a bit ahead of their time, still, their sound remain modern and fresh to this day. Dark, gloomy, quirky, rhythmic and repetitive is the thing here.

Cobalt 62 - self titled 7''ep - 1997

First and only release from this short-lived French band. Cobalt 62 played simple, honest and driving melodic hard core punk. The Minor Threat influence is obvious on this recording...
They wrote a few songs, played some gigs in small provincial towns, appeared on the "Reconstruction CD compilation" which gathered the French D.I.Y. H/C punk scene of 1997, then released this posthumous ep and called it quits. Their drummer later on went to play in various bands as "Les Feux de L'Amour" ( french for the TV soap opera "The Young & the Restless ) and Hippies of Today...
This eight song ep was pressed to 300 copies.

First and only self-produced Seven inch from this small Japanese hardcore band.
Except this, they had compilation appeareances on the "Kakumei-Best Run Fast" lp from MCR records and the "Target Dictator" Cd on Fight Men Records, that was the early nineties...
Later, i suppose they had a full lenght album, with heavier guitars, leaning on that "Burning Spirits" stuff that i don't appreciate that much. Except those few discography facts, i have no information about those lads and their whereabouts.
Here it's just classic basic fast paced J-core with trebly guitars, inept songwriting, fat distorted bass, sing-a-long choruses, and the snare drum sounds like a tin can, which is an important detail.

More weird music, and here's a very strange record...
I've posted the Truth Of Arize 1998 demo here some time ago, so, one year later, those guys decided to release their first and only full lenght Lp. This time they went for a total psychedelic experimental record. Some songs from the demo are barely discernable but buried under thick layers of white noise, tons of echo and delay . Music had been totally annihilated by the production, and looking at the devastated landscape on the inner sleeve, it let think that the sonic damage had been done deliberately, and that some illegal substances had been used during the process...
Well, you had been warned, this is not for the faint of heart, the mp3s had been arbitrarily separated in five different tracks because i couldn't made it between the different songs and the tracklisting mentioned on the sleeve.
If you want to dig deeper in this strange concept, you can check some academic writing about the... "third wave of Japanese Noise-core"...

Well, Mug was not really a band, it was a collaborative project between a bunch of crazy musicians and crazy visual artists, they stayed three weeks together to write songs and record them on the spot, the result is that freak experimental record.
Musically speaking, this is quirky, angular and noisy experimental arty punk, if i'm correct, the strings section is held by former members ot French Art Punk band La Machoire, and the drums by a guy from the Scottish band Badgewearer.
The vinyl was released by the Amanita label and the silkscreened package done by Le Dernier Cri including an inbound booklet (also fully silkscreened). Due to the sheer amount of hand-made work to produce this baby, the pressing was limited to 500 copies...
The booklet art was done by several undergraphists as Y5P5, Sury, De Broutelles, BlexBolex, Valium, Poincelet, Kerozen and others. The complete artwork is included in the .zip file.

Not many information available about this German punk band except this entry on KFTH.
So according to their bio, Stress started in 1979, recorded these songs in 1981, the vinyl was released one year later by the famous label Rock-O-Rama records before it turned producing white supremacist material, and then the band called it quits. Musically, this is mid tempo classic german punk, with clean sounding guitars, nice melodies and sing-a-long choruses, with an overall sad and melancholic feel...
they had a quite negative review in MRR back then,
"Again, flat production and mundane material make for an unsatisfying German punk album. This record is positively laid back, the worst possible attribute for a hardcore release. Much of the problem here is no doubt due to the wimpy recording, but the songs themselves don't show much promise, either. There are rare glimpses of potential, but they never develop into anything substantial."
which i find a bit hard, the reviewer was probably expecting a hard hitting thrash record from these Krauts, but from a 2010 perspective, the flaws depicted in this review, especially in terms of sound and recording, makes it a refreshing and interesting record...
Love the front cover picture, a crowd shot coming out of an administrative building, with faces blacked out, is a little bit creepy, disturbing and violent, if you come to think of it...

Early release from the Japanese label Overthrow, released one year after the not-so memorable Tusk flexi. The two bands sharing this seven inch were coming from Nagoya.
Ashes delivers three tracks of simple straightforward hardcore with a slight U.S. touch, if you don't take the vocals in consideration. Crowd, on the other side play heavy and dark, powerful hardcore with a slight metal touch, with throaty and gruffy vocals, like if their singer smoked three packs of Lucky Strikes before entering the studio.
Again, nothing exceptional here, just a fine release if you enjoy classic Japanese hardcore...

This split ep feature two almost unknown bands roaming in the Tokyo punk scene during the early nineties. Except this shared collaboration, Ghoza had some songs featured in CDs compilations like "Fuck The System" and "Target Dictator", Scumblast on the other hand appeared on the "Last Warrior" CD sampler.
Ghoza's side takes the cake in my opinion, Scumblast sound is unfortunately a bit messy, sloppy and chaotic... Both bands deliver crude, inept but enjoyable songs if you're familiar with Japanese hardcore.

Still have the crazy vocals, but the music is getting more tight compared to the previous 12''. More political lyrics about the Apartheid and the carceral system.
Sure Verdun couldn't get their music airplayed on the local radio stations with lyrics such as "Executioners open champagne bottles, pissing on their broken victims"... Some might find it disturbing or completely tasteless... Things are definitely improving musically for Verdun with their next 12'' release. Should post it later on this blog, stay tuned.

First vinyl from the French punk band Verdun, coming from the gutters of Rouen, upper Normandy, starting in 1981 and calling it quits in 1992, they had quite a discography during these years... Musically this is mid tempo dark anarcho-punk with crazy female vocals.
political lyrics are delivered against the carceral system, and specifically about the Irish political prisoners held in the Long Kesh high security prison during the early 80's.

Second seven inch from Idora, issued by the great German label Heartfirst, still producing quality releases to this day. Musically, this is almost the same vibe than their previous ep, while i'm not sure when the Heartfirst 7'' or the MCR one was released first. Still very intense, faster and more straightforward than the other ep. Sad emotional songs, dealing with sensations and feelings of despair and alienation, while their engrish lyrics don't make much sense, ( "i cannot communization" wtf? ) they're sure delivered with a lot of conviction.

First seven inch from the Japanese rockers Idora, the band is still playing these days, while i didn't catch up with their latest recordings. Their sound mixes classic 70's rock ( think Jimi Hendrix or Black Sabbath ) and 80's japanese punk ( I would say Lip Cream )...
Great work on the guitars, tuneful, melodic and powerful songwriting, the songs have a pretty melancholic and desperate feel, overall a pretty solid release.

So here's the follow-up from the previous post, three years later the seminal Rapsodie compilation, gathering the pionneers of the under-developped French Hardcore scene.
There was quite an "Hardcore Evolution" going on in France back in 1989, the "alternative rock" movement was slowly decomposing and some of its major players were absorbed by the mainstream music industry, and, due to the popularity of Crossover, the local metal kids started to be exposed to American Hardcore music, which was "fresh" and "hip" at that time, almost until 1992...
This compilation didn't aged well in my opinion, it lacks the raw punk energy that can be found in "Rapsodie" for example, but it still has its moments. Highlights are the tracks from Les Gnomes, Parkinson Square and Tears Of A Doll ( first appearance from this post Heimat-Los band )
Nomed and Endless Diatribe are in the "metal" side of things, Original Disease ( formerly Final Blast ) and Apologize lean toward Emo, M.S.T. and Krull suck really hard, but again it's a just a matter of personal taste...
On a side note, this record was released a 12inch vinyl with a booklet, i bought the tape version just out of curiosity for the extra track from Tears Of A Doll.

Well, this review by Pushead taken from the January 1987 issue of Thrasher Magazine gives you an idea of the musical content. This lp released in late 1986 was the very first Hardcore 12inch record produced in France back then. It's no mystery that the French bands were a little behind the rest compared to their european counterparts... During the 80s, the French punk sound was dominated by street punk and oï bands, and these influences still remains for some bands on this lp.
The first volume of this compilation was released one year earlier as a tape, check it on the Pay No More Than blog. This record is ripped on 256kbps from the original source, here you get much better quality than the 128 kbps rip already floating on the WWWeb.

The band also had many compilation appearances during the 90's. While they don't have new recordings since some years, No Think is still playing gigs from time to time.
I will rip and post their two other eps on this blog later...
As you can see on the video below, they play dirty and sloppy crust with fast grinding parts. Good shit.

Here's the very first punk record from Singapore pressed on vinyl by the French label New Wave records, who had quite an interest for exotic and foreign bands during the eighties, releasing for example the Peruvian band Ataque Frontal in 1987.
Opposition Party played basic punk influenced by U.K. '82 bands, the sound quality on this record is pretty decent while the drums are quite prominent in the mix.
Other early recordings from them were featured previously on this blog.
Considered as the godfathers of the Singapore punk scene, O.P. turned metal during the 90's and are still playing to this day, while i doubt the local punk kids are familiar with this record. Classic Japanese motorcycle punk. Except the tracks from the "Great Punk Hits" compilation, you'll find here their complete recording output.
The limited edition bootleg seven inch was released by a German bootlegger who also produced G.I.S.M stuff in the early nineties. Two tracks come from the ADK 12'' and two instrumental tracks from an unknown source, 365 is a Stalin song, the guitarist Tam was also Stalin's prolific songwriter by the way... The drummer Pill was banging the drums for Lip Cream during the following years and he's still involved in many different projects to this day...

The 7inch cover was taken from the finnish band Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio 666 album, i don't see the relation or the meaning here, it looks like a blurred picture of a bayonet, which makes a strange offensive and phallic symbol for a cover picture imho, and suits perfectly G-Zet aggressive and cold music...

Obscure Brazilian compilation, featuring twelve punk bands from the Nordeste/North-East part of the country, those bands deliver forty five tracks of extremely crude and lo-fi recordings.
Most of them are totally unknown except Discarga Violenta.
Well, i have a hard time reading or deciphering Portuguese, so here's what i can understand from reading the liner notes of this record: This is a regional compilation, the bands are coming from places like Fortaleza, Pernambuco, Salvador de Bahia, Natal, and Recife, places that are more known for Samba and its traditional music than Punk / Hard-core. The title could be roughly translated as: "Emergency, When Lives dry from Hunger and Thirst, It's Raining Money In The Governants Pockets", the Nordeste region is known to be an area plagued by chronic poverty and famine, and climatic problems such as aridity... I don't get the specific issues regarding the "Politica Da Seca" exposed on this record, maybe a Brazilian reader visiting this blog can provide a little explanation...
While Brazil is now becoming one of the new leading economic power along with China and India,
this record released 10 years ago is still rooted in the Third World side of punk music, the songs range from crude and simple Latino-core to Noise-core, with the participation of Inexistencia Divina and Discarga Violenta. The sound quality is mostly acceptable to raw, a band like Ruptura just used a cassette recorder in the rehearsal room, and the pressing quality is quite poor, resulting in lots of surface noise... well, think i'll just add a good old Meteoro amplifier picture to sum up the whole thing...

First and only single from the mysterious band Hydrolic Systems, coming from the city of Angers.
On A side, the song "Hydrolic Systems" piledrives during one minute and twenty seven seconds, fast, noisy, repetitive pounding beats, furious distorted vocals...
On B side, the melodic song "Run Away" last three minutes and seven seconds, the tempo gets slower but the music delivered is still very intense, with multi layered guitar coats and choruses...
There's not much information available about this short-lived French band. They didn't produce anything except this single and a compilation appearance on the same label. Looks like a side-project from people involved in the energetic Angers rock scene, probably some guys from bands like Dirty Hands or Les Thugs...
Competent and original songwriting, lots of energy for a noisy rock band who definitely didn't imitate their British and U.S. counterparts.

Second demo from the Greek Noisecore heroes Sound Pollution.
Sounds like a rehearsal recording, but still cleaner than their first demo titled "Practic Holocaust". Those guys played in Athens during the late eighties, had two demos, a split tape with 7 Minutes of Nausea, and later a split 7''inch with the Greek Grindcore band Rotting Christ, who eventually became quite popular among metal circles some years later. This vinyl so much sounds like crap it's almost pathetic, the noise produced by the bands did lost all it's aggressive power in the studio, guess most sound engineers couldn't deal with this type of music in Greece back then... To my surprise, this little piece of vinyl can reach exorbitant prices on Ebay, it went for 103 Gbp/158 U$D last December. The Greek government should take in consideration the potential of their early local noise band to solve their public debt crisis.

There's 19 tracks, only 3 songs last over the one-minute mark, the overall feeling is quite furious, gloomy and desperate... think there was a lyric sheet included but can't find it anywhere.

This compilation presents an overview of the late eighties Yugoslavian punk and hard core scene.
This is quite a weird record, stylistically going in all directions, except the participation of Motus from Croatia, Zenevski Dekret from Bosnia, Strelnikoff from Slovenia, most bands are totally unknown, and to be frank, some of them suck really hard.
Pulferdrivers play honest and interesting hard-core, Z.G. Noise Forces spew 34 bursts of drunken and lo-fi noisecore, another jamming session from the Patareni guys... Zenevski Dekret play punk with some metal influences, the tracks from this session had been released recently on a 7''ep re-issue. More interesting info about this band from Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Strelnikoff play original electro-punk bordering on industrial music, they had quite a musical carreer until the zeroes.
This lp was the first production from the label Sacro Egoismo, held by a Yugoslavian guy living in Austria. Why the cover art is depicting cavemen, i don't know, maybe in 1989, year of that release, the artist did sense the collapse of the former federal republic which did led to the war and its many atrocities during the following years.

Nothing new here, this ep was already posted on the 7inchcrust blog back in 2007.
Didn't split the tracks because there's no blanks between the songs.
Asbestos used pictures of the Nanking Massacre and shots from the famous war photographer Don Mc Cullin for their lyric sheet. Seems the pictures for the front and back cover of this ep relate to the atrocities commited by the Japanese army in Manchuria during the thirthies. It did provide lots of interesting graphic material for Japanese punk bands during the eighties.
On a side note, Asbestos played hard core punk with some metal elements in the guitar riffing, gruffy vocals and war related lyrics. The band did reunite in the early 2000's, don't know what they're up to now, maybe they have some new recordings in the works...

First and only release from these Japanese thrashers. Pretty obscure band, later those guys went to form the "Burning Spirits" band Zone during the mid Nineties.
They called their ep "Stâin Pöllutiön Rétäliätiön" because from their perspective, putting umlauts and accents over all the wovels look really cool, this is so exotic, you know...
Griffin Fz played fast hardcore-thrash, with a bit of metal riffing and influences displayed on the songs introductions and slow parts...
I included extra live tracks from the band in the folder, three songs appear on this flexi and two are unreleased. This is a soundboard recording so the quality is acceptable, and these live songs really give the full dimension of the band's power, which was definitely lost on the studio recording. Just compare and be the judge...

Early MCR stuff, gathering bands from Sapporo, Hokkaido area, one the first of the label's "city hardcore" flexi compilation series.
Two songs from Slang, featured on their early discography lp, but recorded with a cleaner sound.
F.U.P. are unknown to me, their deliver two songs of rough, primitive and distorted J-hard core. Maybe this is due to the Hokkaido cold climate, but those bands had a little Scandinavian feel... Can't say much about Satanic Hell Slaughter, who plays raw Death metal bordering on grindcore, some guitar riffing was obviously influenced by Napalm Death or S.O.B. ( "What's the Truth" era ) their fast drumming lacks of punch, seems this kind of material is a bit outdated today... but the performance of F.U.P. and Slang alone makes this flexi worth listening anyway.

More Last Gasp, This is their second ep and a massive improvement in terms of songwriting and sound quality. Some songs leaning towards power-violence with blast-beats and all, still the slow parts are melodic, groovy and well-executed. This band really had great potential, but they didn't jumped on the bandwagon, they didn't care about the bandwagon anyway, maybe they were just in the wrong place in the wrong time... I don't know how many copies of this vinyl were pressed but if you missed it back in the 90's, it still easy to find cheap second-hand copies around.

"(... ) See, most of us punkers here in Seattle were really heshers at heart. Mix shitty generic beer in with some of the most potent mind-numbing marijuana in the United States, add louder-than-fuck metal durge...and you've got a recipie for one of the heaviest mind fogs you could ever achieve. First vinyl effort from the overlooked and forgotten Seattle band Last Gasp.
This is angry, dirty, nihilistic and drug-fueled punk hard-core.
I remember i really enjoyed this ep when it came out, it felt like a breath of fresh air amisdst all those boring posi-core and straight-edge bands coming from the U.S.A at that time.
There's an annoying sheet of trebly sound covering all the songs, like if the sound engineer did put small tambourines on the microphones stands while recording the band. That may sound fucked-up but still, every instruments are properly defined below those tiny bells ringing continuously.
I guess with lyrics such as: "looking outside the window / start to feel like shit / got a corpse in my freezer / it won't suck my dick " Last Gasp didn't got very positive reviews for this ep.

Found some interesting piece of writing about the band history and the wider context of the Seattle underground scene in the late 80s, written by their former guitarist, this is called "Seattle’s Not Dead’: The Forgotten Seattle Hardcore Punk Scene". " Things were starting to get really weird in Seattle, what with this new yarl-filled rock coming out of long-haired bands with shirtless lead singers. I saw it coming, and I started running. Us punk rock fuckups never wanted to famous, but we never wanted to be buried by hair and meat. Yarl yarl yarl. The worst was yet to come. We ignored it by consuming copious amounts of shitty beer, and screaming at the top of our lungs. Soon, however, even our scene would change. The music would slow down, people starting getting all tribal and dreadlocky, and the simple aesthetic of D.I.Y. hardcore punk would be infected by a virus called 'grunge'. The only cure for the infection would be death. "

Don't know shit about this Canadian band coming from Toronto.
Heard the song "Trapped in a World"* on a local radio back in '89, it left me a great impression and i immediately wanted to find more material from this band. Direct Action played fast thrashy and dark Hardcore, that could be compared to a more melodic version of Septic Death...
So i was looking for Direct Action material... by browsing the MRR ads, i found out a german label just released an eighteen song Lp for the European market, pressed on blue/purple vinyl, and combining the best songs from the band's 1984 demo and 1985 12'' lp.
This Lp is pretty good classic Canadian Hardcore, fast drums, shouted vocals, groovy bass lines, playing just between classic American hardcore bands and thrashier stuff like Septic Death and Negative Gain. If you never heard them yet, it's highly recommended to give it a try:

Kaos were a Peruvian band from the end of the eighties, hailing from Lima between 1986 and 1989. Contemporaries of bands like Ataque Frontal, Gx3, Narcosis or Descontrol, they didn't have the success of Ataque Frontal, who had the chance to got a 7inch ep released overseas, and being given some international exposure.
Kaos only released a demo tape in 1989, which had been re-issued on Cd by the Mexican label Illy Jocker along with some extra live tracks. Sound quality is pretty decent here, vocals are harsh and angry, the guitarist had this typical Peruvian fuzzed-out guitar sound, and he's pretty good at what he's doing while not sounding "metal" at all. Furious and desperate South-American hardcore, definitely worth a listen for the amateurs of the genre:

Dudman - Fu Hatsu Dann Otoko 7'' ep - Denied A Custom - 1998

First record from the Japanese band Dudman. This band had quite good capacities in terms of songwriting, seeing their plethoric discography.
They had 2 full-lenghts 7'', this one and "Kaiho" on 625 records, they shared splits with Bathtub Shitter, NK6, Terrible Headache ( Japan ) , Cruel Face ( Brazil ) , Comrades & S.S.P ( Italy ), many compilation appearances and i might miss some of it. This band never had the success it deserved, meaning they're playing fast, rhythmic, intricate and brutal hardcore. This is really violent stuff, full of stops and starts, might remind a faster version of Gauze's latter material, but the songs are so complex it really requires attention while you're being hammered at the head by a really angry dude.
Maybe their stuff is just too complex, too noisy for the average hardcore kid...
They started as a trio and then they were later joined by an American expat, their drummer also plays in the band Pigmen, who play quirky music influenced by Nomeansno, Minutemen played with the intensity of Japanese thrash.

A follow-up to the previous post with more songs from the Sadist.
This was a very early release from the Vanilla records label, whom produced many artists in the Industrial and extreme music field as C.C.C.C., Masonna, Dissecting Table, Incapacitants... you get the picture. Compared to the previous Sadist material, the two songs presented here are much more quiet, seems the drummer had been replaced by a drum machine, still the result is upbeat, weird but still dark Japanese punk, ADK records bands comes to mind.
The typical japanese two-headed sex toy looks quite neat on the pink sleeve. Again, i prefer that to the usual clichés of war pictures and starving children...

This Cd documents the rise of the Asian and South-East Asian DIY punk scene during the 90s. That was the first opportunity for me to listen to bands from Korea, China or Indonesia. That coincides with the troubled context of the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis. I suppose the access to cable TV in the early 90s, with shows like MTV's Alternative Nation, Mall Punk bands like Green Day & The Offspring, MTV S.E. Asia, Channel [V] did have a non-negligible influence on the birth of the local alternative and underground music scenes. Most of the bands featured on this compilation started during the mid-nineties... Meaning that for most Young Asians back then, the first encounter with different kinds of music was due to the mainstream media, and less by fanzines and tape trading circles, in some ways, places like Korea, Indonesia or Malaysia were quite culturally isolated from the outside world, living under authoritarian regimes during the 80's...
This compilation present a wide diversity of bands and styles of music, covering Straightforward H/C punk, Street Punk, Melodic stuff, Crust/grind...

Well, as this post is already rich with images and text, i'll try to make it short.
This seven tracks seven inch is the first & only record from Autonomia Indigena. This was a French band while half the members were coming from Chile. They were coming from the city of Orleans and could be related from its early 90's local scene.
Musically, this is politically conscious latino HxC punk similar to bands like Los Crudos or Huasipungo, not as energetic compared to those bands, but still interesting, some hooks and rhythmic changes make it quite listenable, the whole vibe reminds me some early stuff from Negazione. Leave a comment to tell me if i'm wrong...

First ep from the Frenchies Les Cadavres, fast paced, up-tempo punk-rock.
This is the third pressing of the ep titled "Le temps passe, les souvenirs restent" ( meaning more or less "time passes, memories remains" ), originally released in 1984 but with a different title and cover art. The band had quite a discography over the years and their hectic carreer.
Lyrics are well written compared to their French street-punk counterparts, it has quite a bleak and depressing outlook on life. "Salopes de Keufs" is an anthemic, mandatory anti-cops song...
The vocalist is still active today with the band €uroshima, who plays synth-punk, mixing electro beats and distorted guitars, not really my cup of tea, but still aesthetically acceptable... Sound and video are visible here.

This enjoyable 12'' compilation was produced by the Yokohama based label "Adventure Family Records", runned by the Fearless Vampire Killers guys, who were playing weird H/C mixed with some reggae influences, but were definitely not sounding like the Bad Brains...
The most solid bands on this sampler are definitely Mino-5, which includes the famous Deathside guitarist Chelsea, and Crück, with their chaotic rhythm section.
The rest are the usual players from the Tokyo area underground scene, some totally unknown except a few flexi or compilation appearances, and some like F.V.K, Sic, Don Don, Mad Conflux, who had much more visibility.
Took some time to take pictures of the poster sleeve, because i always found the visual aspect of these japanese comps pretty nice and interesting, so i wanted to share it with you...

Infezione were coming from Modena, North of Italy, which was also the cradle of the Italian car industry. This 1989 lp was their second release after the self-released "Opressione Quotidiana" tape.
"Chiediti Il Perche" could be roughly translated as "You're asking Why", While the Italian punk H/C scene started to lose all its interest at the end of the eighties, putting out mediocre bad metal albums, eating too much pasta, being all skateboard and bandanas and less spiky hair and studded jackets, Infezione remained an angry and pissed-off band, unrelentlessly spewing anarchist messages in their songs. Here you have the complete display in this album, a pro-vegetarian, an anti-vivisection, a pro-feminist, an anti-religion, anti-imperialist song, you got them all!!! In one single record!!! How fantastic!!! Displayed on the album's back cover is the famous Sacco & Vanzetti picture.
Musically, this is classical mid-tempo to fast Italian Hard Core, guitar sound is thin but have an interesting texture.

Aside from this ep, those lads did put out one track on the "Unknown Hardcore drunkers vol.1" triple flexi compilation and they did put out a double 7inch with the band Mentally Society, the "Hardcore Clash Out" double ep, that is...
Here you will find classical, unoriginal, traditional Japanese hardcore punk with gruffy vocals, guitars solos, metallic riffing and all the stuff, looking at the back cover of the record, i would not like to cross these guys in a dark alley at night, ,they're really scary and ugly-looking... If you're curious about the japanese punk folklore, or if you want to understand how these guys adapt to the rigid japanese society, i recommend reading this informative Tokyo Damage Report article...

First vinyl output by the RWA frenchies, this band was located in the city of Bordeaux,
as far as i know, they did produced many different records in different formats along with the Amanita label, later material inclued saxophone and a female vocalist, but it seems the RWA project got the participation of many different members along the years and their recording output.
Here, it might sound like a very noisy and raw version of Big Black, pounding repetitive drum machine beats and ultra distorted guitars, if you understand french, the lyrics make the difference and make these two pieces of vinyl worth a listen...

On a side note, if you're interested in visual arts, but never mind, this post is not aimed at crusties punks by the way, second cover was done by the Canadian comics artist Julie Doucet,

Another curiosity, recorded live and produced by "Rock House Explosion", for further explanations, see previous post. Got these two 8 inches flexi since 1989 when a famous local distro and record label decided to clear all their stocks at bargain prices, even if the bands were totally unknown, imported Japanese records were very difficult to find, so i thought "let's give it a try"... didn't listen to it lots of times during the past 20 years, but after transferring it recently to the digital format, while not being incredible material, those two flexis revealed to be a quite enjoyable listening experience.

No-One's played typical Japanese mid-paced punk-rock, leaning more on the "rock" side of things. If you'd been watching those Japanese anime TV series during the 80s, anime for girls, the romantic kind... the girl would fall in love with the mysterious, dark guy from the college. Outside college the guy writes poems and plays in a rock band, that rock band would sound like No-One's... You can check the D/l link to verify this assumption.

What can i say about this one ? Inessential but a rare find, pretty obscure record.
Talgevo played upbeat Japanese punk-rock, which could be compared to a poppier version of The Stalin, for example...
This is a live recording taken from the soundboard which does really well to capture the energy of the band, who might have sucked with a cleaner but mediocre studio recording. Here, the sound quality is pretty good, from the recording itself to the vinyl mastering, the work was done by passionate and dedicated professionals .
Rock House Explosion was a "live house", a venue for punk, rock and metal bands, and also a record label. According to the catalog numbers, it seems they had produced many many different records during the 80's.
There's a page with a short, partial Rock House Explosion discography, leaning mostly to the metal side of things, japanese metal fans might be familiar with names like Casbah, Sabbrabells or Jurassic Jade...

Second 7 inch from Griffin, after their 1988 self-released "Phantom of the Shocker".
Don't have any clue about these guys, The Griffin's sound fused 70's rock elements with their hard core punk music, but that tendency could be heard with many other Tokyo bands from the 1989~1991 scene... The result is quite original and they managed to pull out their unique sound. They had many albums released on labels like Alchemy or MCR records, and i suppose they keep playing right now...
There's some more info with a complete discography on this page if you read Japanese, links to some Youtube live videos taken from the "Hard & Loud vol.1" VHS tape, which sounds pretty messy, seems that The Griffin's music subtleties can be mainly enjoyed on studio recordings, but again, it's just a subjective matter of taste and opinion...

Third vinyl effort and first full-lenght from the Japanese cuties punk band Kyah!
Despite appearing as cute ladies on-stage, Kyah! also produced pretty decent, energetic punk-rock. While their early material was quite simple, the main improvement on this mini lp is in terms of song-writing, with much more developped elaborated melodies and song structures, nice guitar work and choruses, i suppose this record might please J-Pop fanatics and punk rockers as well.

Gauze " Fuckheads" promo shoot, 1984 or 1985?

Gauze performing the song "Genkai Wa Doko Da" at club Citta in 1991, opening for Discharge when they toured Japan, according to the video, the singer seems completely drunk, and a fight erupts on stage between him and an audience member, then with a guy from the club staff tring to separate them and end up the fight... Pretty pathetic and funny at the same time...
"Genkai Wa Doko Da" was Gauze's third album, back then they were already one of the oldest Japanese punk band still running but they didn't achieved to get the cult status of nowadays, the band was quite controversial due to some of their lyrics and their violent attitude on-stage.
Got this lp back in the day through the services of MCR U.K. mailorder, not many people gave a shit about Gauze in Europe back then, a friend of mine got the chance to see them live in London during their short 1989 U.K. tour ( see the picture above ), he tried to exchange words with the band but the Japs were rather cold and distant. No matter the cultural gap and the band un-politically correct attitude, the mediocre production values of this record, amidst the pathetic stage of the punk HxC production from 1991, that was one of the best kept secret Lp of that shitty year. Don't know about how many copies were pressed, but it seems it's the most difficult Gauze's album to find... Any further info is welcome.
